Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is a sport which consists of riding bikes off-road, often over rough terrain, using specially adapted mountain bikes. Mountain bikes share similarities with other bikes, but incorporate features designed to enhance durability and performance in rough terrain. There are different grades for mountain biking trails. These are green, blue, red and black.

Green trails are the easiest trials and for beginners or novice cyclists. The trail will be mainly flat and wide, the surface may be loose, muddy or uneven.

Blue trails are moderatly difficult and for intermediate cyclists or mountain bikers with basic off-road riding skills. The trial will include all the things on the green trail as well as specially constructed singletracks. The surface may also include small obstacles such as roots and rocks.

Red trails are difficult and for skilled mountain bikers with good off-roading skills. The trail will be steeper and tougher than the blue trails and will consist of mainly singletrack with technical sections, there will be very variable surfaces. The technical sections will consists of a range of climbs and decents. As well as large rocks, medium steps and water crossings.

Black trails are classed as severe trails and are for expert mountain bikes who are used to physically demanding routes. The trail will be the same as the red trails except they will have a greater challenge and continuous difficulty. The technical sections will be challenging and variable.
